Native Passiflora/ Passionfruit

Seeing as Passiflora have evolved for dispersal by birds, it seems unlikely that the cyanogenic glycosides would be found in the fruit, as they are as susceptible to cyanide poisoning as humans. More specific, anti mammal toxins generally occur in such a plant's fruit, like the strychnine fruit (Strychnos lucida).

Will happily go out on a limb and say here that the species of Passiflora herbertiana that is found in the bunya mountains area is not only edible but quite delicious . I can;t get enough of them MMMMmmmmm

I haven't tried any of the native passionfruit, but I eat Passiflora foetida, which is a weed around here. I really like it, but no-one else that I've given it to likes it .I also gather fruit of the weedy common passionfruit, which grows wild here also.

I have had two passifloira cinnabarina plants and both grow fast but end up dying fast too - never did get to try the fruits alas.

Not sure if I was unlucky or their natural habit is to die but mine offed themselves somehow.
