Candlebark Community Nursery

Postby Skipdaddyo » Sun Nov 05, 2006 4:51 pm

Just got home from my first indiginous nursery experience. I went to Candlebark Community Nursery in Croydon.

Got some good help from a friendly guy called Daniel.

Purchased eight plants:-

Dianella longifolia - Pale Flax Lily / Smooth Flax Lily
Dianella revoluta - Black Anther Flax Lily
Bulbine bulbosa - Bulbine Lily
Thysanotus tuberosus - Common Fringe Lily
Rubus parvifolius - Native Raspberry / Japanese Raspberry
Coprosma quadrifida - Prickly Currant Bush
Sambucus gaudichaudiana - White Elderberry
Microseris lanceolata - Murnong / Yam Daisy

Candlebark is a not for profit nursery run by their member base and a committee (memberships are $11 per annum for a single, $16.50pa for families, and $22pa for a group). Members get discounts on plants, a number of free plants (2 for singles, 5 for families, and 15 for groups), a quarterly newsletter, and borrowing rights for their resource library. If you're interested in learning new things and/or just want to help out you can volunteer (session times are Mon-Thurs 10:00-3:00). I'll certainly be doing so once the State Election is over...

You won't find natives from across Australia. Candlebark only stocks plants which are indiginous to the Maroondah and Yarra Ranges municipalities. From what I could tell all plants are sold as tubestock. Their prices are nice and cheap - I paid about $2 each...

They'll be relocating to a new address at some stage in the future as the land they're presently on has been sold... Will update this and other threads when I know their new address.

Hi Skip,
I haven't been there for ages. Thanks for all the opening hours, etc.
Sounds like a nice bunch of plants you've acquired!

Thanks mate :)

I'm very happy with everything.

Have potted them up now.

Can't believe that I've lived here for nigh on 7 years and didn't even know they existed... I feel like such a peanut LOL
