Yuruga

This is another excellent nursery for natives. Yuruga is in northern Qld. Excellent range, especially of native tropicals.

Fast & reliable air shipping too. They have to spray the plants before export from Qld unfortunately, but that's the only annoyance :)

one thing i forgot to mention was what sort of interesting natives Yuruga grows. One of the MOST interesting (and most ungrowable in Sydney!) is Terminalia ferdinandiana (the "Kakadu Plum"), which was/is reupted to have the world's highest levels of vitamin C in its fruit. Think i'll start another topic on that one, actually.

and another plant that Yuruga grows that is of bushfood interest - Citrus glauca (a.k.a Eremocitrus glauca) - the Desert Lime. This one is hard to find too.

They sure did Lorax, i bought Terminalia ferdinandiana and Gyrocarpus americanus, both to check to compare if my seedlings were the same, i.e. i hadnt sprouted weeds :)

Arrived in great form, only prob was they use Aust Air Express which means you have to drive to the domestic terminal to pick the darned things up!

I would love to visit them... what was it like????? (you lucky devil ;) ) i spoke to the husband (it's a husband and wife team isnt it?) on the phone and he was an enthusiastic guy ;)

yeah its great, they both know their shit. they were the first people up here to use potting machines :). they do alot of natives and also plantation trees from TC. they are a accreited nursery (so simple to become one). they have the biggest misting house ive seen, every 30seconds it goes off and you cant see anything lol. they even let their staff use the nursery area to grow their own plants cos they figure they will learn more about growing plants that way and its true. they have open days every once in a while and have heapsa info sheets available. when they buy their seed or collect it they make sure they get plenty of different genotypes which is good. the ladies they employ to do cuttings do some incredible number per hour.

I loooove Yuruga. Have spent many a happy dollar there. Am about to get them to come out to my block and help with a management plan. Spoke to them at the Walkamin field day and they do that.
Cheers
