Does anyone here have experience propagating "old socks"? Germination, growing till flowering and maybe grafting onto a stronger root stock (i.e. G. robusta for melbourne)

I found a handful of fresh seeds from a flowering stinker the other day.

Got one seed germinating with the +40 C weather from the 5 planted the other day.

I removed the wings from around the seeds, nicked the coat at the edge (the resulted in one seed snapping in half!!!! careful) and soaked overnight in warm smoke water. They had swelled marginally the next morning.

Potted them up in 3:1 native mix:perlite. With the small addition of some granite dust.

Hope she likes it.

I'm planning to eventually keep it growing in a large pot with well draining soil, on the dry side in the winter. When large enough I'll try and graft some branches onto G. robusta seedlings.

Any suggestions on any of this?

is it the flowers that stink or the foliage? old socks?!

The flower, and only at night. Smells like a mixture of sweet caramelized sweaty socks. Very pervasive scent, it will easily fill a garden with it.

And it is recommended to not plant it near ones bedroom window!!

At long last I have a picture of the seedlings (both got muched back by a snail, which was killed later, and the 3rd seedling backed away one hot sunny day)

The main plant is Grevillea magnifica.

how's the duboisia btw? i thought about it, and i reckon in victoria, just to be on the safe side i'd leave it indoors one more season, maybe put it out next season, in mid-spring??

I'll see how the seedlings go. maybe I'll get those out in more approriate spots
