Getting more and more interested in growing this plant for biodiversity reasons. Any interesting facts?

They do contain tropane alkaloids Jungleman, some of these are in Datura spp. like meteloidine and others like dihydroxytropacocaine and methylecgonidine occur in the roots.

Chewing leaves gives a bit of throat constriction but some others have smoked leaves and reckon it's alright

E. australe makes a good bonsai specimen!

Smoke? uuugh! Throat constriction doesn't sound that fun either.

I heard E australe is useful to graft E novo/coca etc to in order to produce a more hardy plant. Dunno the validity of this, can someone please confirm or deny?

I spose that makes it a very useful ethnobotanical if this is true.

Hope it's true!!!
