CRC for Australian Weed Management closing up

Postby Bluetongue » Sun May 20, 2007 9:57 pm

Landline on ABC today had a segment about the Weeds CRC. Apparently the government has discontinued funding and they are to wind up their operations by mid 2008.

Unbelievable!

That's disgraceful! It drives me mad that scientific research is always brought down to the level of "commercialisation criteria". I've seen first hand some of the work the Weed CRC is doing, and true, it may be slow, but quality research always is. Where does the Fedral Government think the money would be better spent? They shut down the Rainforest CRC last year too, and have stopped funding the CSIRO entemology department. Shouldn't the latter be of foremost concern for quarantine issues? Not to mention researching new biological control tools... but we already know they don't care about weed control anymore.

I think this warrents the use of an emoticon.

LOL! Emoticons have their uses, eh.

I didn't know about those other developments, Bray, so thanks.
