Wattleseed - Bulk Purchase?

Postby wattleseed10 » Sun Jun 13, 2010 8:32 pm

Hello,

I am interested in cooking with more native spices and seasonings. I am particularly interested in Wattleseed and am trying to find somewhere online that sells it in larger quantities at bulk prices. I found this website which sold the native ingredients including wattleseed at bulk sizes. http://www.members.westnet.com.au/bushf ... 20Seed.htm

Unfortunetly it seems they no longer sell any produce - I sent an email but got an instant mail unable to be delivered email back.

I would like to know where I can buy wattleseed and hopefully other native ingredients in larger and bulk sizes.

Thanks Heaps.

Wattleseed in bulk

Postby Cherikoff » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:20 am

We can supply Wattleseed in bulk and regularly supply manufacturers using it. Having invented the roasted flavouring from the specific wattle species, ours is the best on the market for the characteristic coffee, chocolate flavours. It's a little like coffee from Robusta or Arabica beans - a small difference in variety or roasting means good or bad coffee. Wattleseed is no different.

We have just launched our shop interface for chefs who tend to buy in larger quantities (and we offer wholesale pricing).

Wattleseed is on the list in kg bags so head on over to http://www.cherikoff.net/shop or go direct to our http://tinyurl.com/just-for-chefs for the wholesale interface.

Cheers,
Vic

PS Why would you get Wattleseed from anyone other than the person who developed it? For the best coffee, chocolate, hazelnut flavour and the richest depth of character, Cherikoff Wattleseed is second to none.

Vic

Well done and thank you in developing roasted ground wattleseed, and helping to introduce it into Australian homes & restaurants. I've certainly had an interesting and enjoyable time cooking with wattleseed and eating the results.

You do have a point in what you wrote. However, I wish to highlight a couple of other stores to Wattleseed10.

Wattleseed10

(1) You weren't able to email the website you mentioned above as they hadn't updated their new email address. As I'm a customer of his, he emailed me his new email address below, but it doesn't appear to have been updated onto the website, though I did inform him (Lyle Dudley) of this a while ago.

bushfoodaustralia@bigpond.com.au

Lyle's store sells & delivers roast ground wattleseed at very cheap prices compared to some other stores, and he offers to sell any amount, so you don't have to buy by the kg. I am unsure whether Lyle has any business registration (it's best to confirm it with him), however I've bought his roast wattleseed and have been very satisfied with its results in my home cooking. (I have also bought & tried Vic Cherikoff's wattleseed with complete satisfaction).

(2) The following store sells and delivers roasted wattleseed in 1kg lots or 100g lots:

www.australianproduce.com.au.

They are a commercial company with an ABN and Food Licence.

(3) The following sells and delivers ground wattleseed in 1kg lots or smaller amounts:

www.outbackchef.com.au

[Note : As a home cook who would go through more than a small packet, I feel it preferable to buy wattleseed at bulk prices ie 500g - 1kg amounts as it is far cheaper than buying small packets long term.]

You might want to consider moving away from using Acacia retinodes seed since the plant contains DMT, its on the commonwealth governments hit list of drug plants to be banned.
