Upgrading forum and gallery

Postby Rimbaud » Mon Nov 01, 2010 4:52 pm

Hi guys, it is wonderful how much participation this forum is getting. I am going to upgrade the forum software and the gallery software, so that they are integrated (so you will find it easier to post pics with your normal Forum ID, for example).

Also it will eliminate some of the current hassles of spam that i get with registrations (or at least it will help)

Bear with me while I do this... Functionally, things will be back up in an hour or two... but aesthetically it may be a week or so (since i have to work out how to arrange the graphics etc in the new version of the forum software)

I am going to look for a "disable posting" function now but if there's not, I will reproduce any posts once the upgrade is done. Should be no big deal.

Thanks again everyone for making this a vibrant community.

forum upgrade went suspiciously well... here is temp link to upgraded gallery:

http://www.bushfood.net/nativegallery

...will get a clearer front-page link soon. it is now single sign-in with the forum so if you are logged out of the gallery, and try to log in, it will redirect you back to the Forum to log in first (then you'll have to revisit the gallery)

Hi,
no idea if i should post this here and perhaps its something in the works yet to be done, but will images in posts be auto resized? I notice most of my images are now cropped to the forum width. eg:

viewtopic.php?p=6921#p6921

vs

Would be great if the forum app would resize instead of crop.

Thanks
Shalem

Hi Shalem, will look into it asap - will add to the list of things that have screwed up :-) upgrades are always a nightmare...

Thanks BT... does anyone have an issue (I do) where the background (the grey mottled texture, and also some words/headings) disappears and then reappears when you "mouse over" it?

Bit annoying... hoping it's just my browser, but i suspect it will be most ppl.

Yep I suspect it is your browser.

a point, I know it is petty but why are the buttons dyslexic ?

I mean to say that English works from left to right. So why is it that so much software has the buttons right to left? Made in China?

Testing image display.

I suppose you get what you pay for when it comes to free forum software :-)

On another note, there are bound to be some scramblings of Forum user IDs with Gallery user IDs. I have fixed Bluetongue's but I suspect there are more (eg Bones6, PLathunter, Eataust, many others)

If you could, would you please visit the gallery and IF your photos appear to be associated with a different user, please reply on this thread (or PM me) and let me know the name of the user they appear to be associated with. I can then go into the database and change the picture owner back to you.

It is a consequence of the forum/gallery integration which is a good idea but will need a little ironing out.

thanks again guys..

Hi Rimbaud, my photos have been associated with "bones6", they should be myself which is "planthunter" also on a separate note, I posted a picture of a wollemie pine tree but stupidly uploaded it on its side and couldnt work out how to put it up the right way as well as amend some of spelling mistakes.

Do I need to delete them and upload or can it be adjusted by myself from here?

Cheers.

Not sure about the pic of the pine (might just need to delete and re-upload like you say), but I have fixed up your user acct Planthunter so give it a try & pls let me know. I am still trying to work out the forum and gallery functions myself :-)

Rimbaud, I suspect that Skipdaddyo's photos are attributed to another username, but I'll pm you about that later.

Thanks for all your work!

Just an update, there are obviously still serious issues with the template i have chosen (and my PHP skills), so on the weekend i am going to revert to the standard out of the box template... since i don't have the skills or time required to monkey with these custom templates....

Hi guys, bit of an upgrade issue.... will fix on the weekend. At the moment, the link to the photo gallery is down (but all the photos are ok)... also some other things are gone. Basically there are just some things I need to tweak... will do on Saturday.
Thanks...
