TV tonight - health benefits of Australian Native Foods

Postby Bluetongue » Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:35 pm

The following is part of a an email I received from ANFIL (Australian Native Food Industry Ltd). I don't know which tv program will feature the bushfood segment, sorry.

--------------
This Sunday evening 18 October, ABC TV will include a segment on new research into the health benefits from Australian native foods.

The new report Evaluation of Native Foods for Health-enhancing Compounds is a result of a project undertaken by FoodScience Australia and jointly funded by RIRDC, ANFIL and the Coles Indigenous Food Fund. The project investigated thirteen commercially-available native crops, to provide reliable scientific information showing that these native foods contain compounds that can provide benefits to our health.

Well it was on the ABC news, and I caught it but can't tell you any more. If anyone knows how to get hold of a copy of the report, please let us know :)

The segment was repeated on Landline today.

The report is available from RIRDC.

The report ( https://rirdc.infoservices.com.au/items/09-133 ) would certainly be interesting, as would this other one I found they have, amongst a heap of other worthwhile reports... that all do cost about $25-35.

Actually it looks like you can download the pdf's for free

This one covers emulsifying and other physical properties, useful in different cooking processes and recipe making perhaps.

Functional Properties of Australian Bushfoods

This report examines the functional properties of Australian bushfoods and provides detailed information on the antimicrobial, antioxidant and emulsifying properties of 19 Australian bushfoods and their products. Several bushfoods were found to possess strong antimicrobial activity against a number of common foodborne human pathogens and food spoilage microorganisms. A number of native plants have relatively strong antioxidant properties. Extracts from wattle seeds (Acacia victoriae) were found to have strong emulsifying capacities. These findings should provide a foundation for better marketing of bushfood products and expanding their areas of application.

Thanks for the links. When I went looking at the time, all I could find was the original reports which came out some years back ...

May I invite readers of this forum to consider a business opportunity based on Wild foods and the health industry? So many of us work long hours in jobs that consume our lives and even if we enjoy what we do, life can slip by and we spend more time with our work mates than our life partners. We are only here for a short while and many of my associates are working at my opportunity running their own businesses with the express purpose of having time freedom, being financially independent and living a high quality life.

I am currently interviewing people to work with me. Applicants need to be highly motivated, ambitious, coachable and willing to invest a few thousand dollars and 7 to 10 hours a week for significant returns. This month is a great time to start as our promotions can earn you all of your investment back and paid to you in December so if you have ever wanted to own your own business (the only way to real wealth without needing lots of money to start), please consider applying.

You will be trained and resourced and work in a small, equally motivated team or one on one if that's your preference. To understand the offer, please visit http://239787.com/superfoods and understand that this is a 3 page information site. Page 2 is a short video and page 3 is a survey which will guide me in assessing you as someone with whom I may wish to work or not.

My current teams are spread across Australia and North America and we are branching out into Europe early next year. Visiting these overseas locations can be tax deductible for you in the future as you build your own business there and you'll have the time freedom to really enjoy the experience and the cashflow to travel in luxury.

Kindest regards,
Vic Cherikoff
