Good Bushfood plants for Sydney region?

Postby bogdanovist » Thu Dec 29, 2011 1:04 pm

Hi all, I'm looking for some good options for native bushfood plants to grow in Sydney. Specifically I'm in Berowra in the upper north shore, the soil is a heavy clay. My mother in law has been trying to grow some finger limes on the northern beaches, which have milder winters than us as we are a bit further inland, and hasn't had much luck. I've noticed that some other popular bushfood plants also tend to be more tropical as well, so I'm really after something that is well suited to the climate, preferably native to the area or similar areas.

I'm open to most things, but ideally I'd like trees growing to 3-5m or so to run along a verge area to provide privacy as well as some good tucker. Attracting native wildlife and birds is also a big plus. I'm probably wanting to plant at least 4 such trees so some different options for variety would be good. I'm just starting to do some research on the different options but any pointers would be much appreciated.
