Pyrenees state forest-edible plants

Postby learning to survive » Tue Nov 30, 2010 7:04 pm

hey guys, I am planning a survival training trip to pyrenees state forest. I the have been putting a guide together which includes edible fruits and plants, but i have been struggling to find out info on the edible plant species from Victoria and the Pyrenees region. Any info on edible and non-edible plants from these regions would be greately appreciated. cheers, Learning to survive.

Hi and welcome to the forum. :) I had to google that state forest. Looks like it's in the goldfields area. I know there have been various forum threads dealing with Victorian bushfoods and goldfields species in particular. The easiest way to find them is to use this forum's search function/button... hmm... the forum has changed recently so I'd better check that there IS a search function :)

What I can tell you off the top of my noggin is that there's a goldfields nursery that stocks bushfood plants - look up their website. And my favourite books for Victorian bushfood and medicinal native plants are by Beth Gott and Nelly Zola - 'Koorie Plants Koorie People' (this is most suitable for your needs)... and by Keith and Irene Smith - 'Grow your own bushfoods'.

Ok, so I checked and of course we have SEARCH - at top right of the page. I put 'goldfields' in there and found several posts, one of which yielded this website

http://www.goldfieldsrevegetation.com.au/

Hope this helps.
